i just bought or rather traded for a tika t3 in 25-06 and love it, my main reason for getting this rifle is varmint hunting (coyotes and such) and am currently looking for a bullet or load that won't blow the bejeepers out of hides, right now it doesn't matter much as the hides aren't worth anything but come dec. $40 is $40, my main question is does anyone make a .257 90-100gr FMJ or solid?

Barnes makes a 90 gr. .257 solid. I still wouldn't load it up to max. but it should work for you. Lawdog

They...(Barnes)... make a 75 grain solid too...this one should do a good job as well...plus 300fps faster to boot :wink:

I have found the 90 grain Barns bullet works the best on long range shots
with my weatherby 257 mag. Also had good luck with my 25-06, No damage to pelts to speak of. A little clean up work to get the copper out of the bore.Good luck.........Joe..............

The reason I didn't mention the 75 gr. version is in rifles of .25-06 or larger they had a tendency to tumble. Lawdog

I have a 243 that I was going to use for yotes I am considering using solids as well but I am reluctant to because of two things.
1 The killing power of a full patch bullet
2 Except after a ricochet and it has hit a mini van full of Nuns x miles away

Basically how much extra space do you need when shooting solids as compared to a varmint type bullet.

Your concerns are valid. You are very right to worry about ricochets.

1.] Using solids means a smaller wound channel thus shot placement becomes critical.

2.] Ricochets ARE a problem so you need plenty of room. Personally I quit using them.. I dont use anything larger than one of my .22 centerfire's for varmints anymore and for animals I am saving hides from I use a .22 Hornet. Small groups and tight lines to you. Lawdog
