When did Remington start making guns in Kentucky?

I was looking at my nephews M-710, in 270 Win. this morning and it really surprised me to see that it was made in ________, Kentucky!
Are they still operating in Illion, NY?

In 1995 or 96 Remington added a Research and Development Department located in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, AKA E-Town to us Kentuckians. In 1997, I believe, is when Remington started making firearms in Mayfield, Kentucky.

The Mayfield plant is in addition to the Ilion, New York plant, which is where Remingtons have been made since 1828 and are still being made today. and also, although I could be wrong, I think the Mayfield plant is the only Remington "firearms" plant built since 1828. From 1816-1828 Remingtons were made in Ilion Gulch, Ny.

7mag:

I believe the Eddystone plant of P14 and P17 fame was a Remington facility, and it was somewhere in the western US.

Dear Rick Teal,
As I said before, "I could be wrong".
The Enfields made under contract for the United Kingdom, were made in Colorado and Utah, in factories owned(and built) by the United States Government and only "managed" by Remington Firearms.
I believe that Remington's Eddystone, Ny. plant, made some parts for the "sporterized" Enfields Remington produced after the war. But they were still assembled in Ilion, Ny.
Remington has factories all over the place but all firearms are assembled in Ilion, Ny. or Mayfield, Ky.
Again, I could be wrong....
