Cuts Crooked gets credit

I was reading the latest issue of Guns of the Old West, and I came across a familiar handle.  The article is on page 12, it's about reloading the 45 Colt.  CC gets credit for getting the author to try .45 Lyman Maxis in cartridges.  I might give them a try myself, since the wife wants some black powder loads with a little less recoil than the full 37-40 grains stuffed under a 255 grain bullet.

Fame!  CC, can you post an autograph for us to print up? :D

Yup! After my intial experiments with it I acquired a lever gun in .45 Colt and I didn't like the look of that pointy lil nose. Thinkin about it sitting right up agin the primer of the shell ahead of it in a tube mag gave me hebejeebies! So I centered it under a drill press and ran a 5/16 end mill bit down in it, cleaned up the cut a bit and ended up with something that looked kinda like a semi wadcutter. Works great! You can see a picture of it along with the original here: http://www.cartogra.com/servlet/com.hp.HPGuestLogin?username=cutscrooked&password=34184589

YUP..
Thats what I thought. It would be nice if the top driving band was extended enough for a crimp groove. There aint much there to crimp on but those lube grooves will hold about a tub of lard
