308 Win Bullet Weights.
« on: August 18, 2004, 01:27:15 PM »
I am wondering if there are any big differences between the 150gr and 165 grain weight bullets in the 308 win? Any difference accuracy wise?
I am currently loading up 150gr Speer Hotcor's and 150gr Hornady SST and neither seem as accurate as what I am getting with 130grains in my 270. I guess I figured the 308 would be a bit more accurate and consistant then my 270.

bear have you tried ww748 or imr4064 powder in your 308.?Sometimes a small change in powder charge will result in better accuracy.
The 308 is well known for its accuracy potential. Have you checked your scope and mounts? My 270 is a rem.Trombone gun(pump action) and it does not beat my 308 handgun in accuracy! Both are capable of taking deer well past 150 yards though.

I'm currently using 45.5gr of IMR4064 powder in both rem and win cases with win wlr primers. I have kind of been thinking about RL15 and seeing what it can or can't do for me. So far I have only used the 4064 since thats what I also use in my 270 with 130gr bullets.

My best loads for my 308 with both 150 and 165 is Reloader 15.  I am not a great shot but can put them at 3/4".  I have tried several other powders but Reloader 15 has been tops for me.
