Doesn't happen to every case, but most.

120gr. Saeco 322 bullet w/ LBT Blue lube (sized .312)
Starline cases
10.0 gr WC820
Federal Sm. Pistol Mag or Sm. Rifle primers
Moderate crimp

Fired in a Ruger Single Six w/ .3125 throats.

Any ideas of why this is happening?

Note: No donuts or carrots were utilized during the development and/or testing of this load.

How much longer are the chambers than the cases?

How much pressure does the load make?

Plenty! How's that single six holding up to those, BTW?

Don't remember how to calculate pressure.  Velocity is about 1350 fps with this load out of a 4 5/8" gun.  What else to you need to approximate pressure?
The Single Six appears to be holding up just fine.  This load was recomended by several people.  Some even used 11 or 12 grains and some suggested 8.5 grains.

Is this load too hot?  The primers are flattened a little, but nothing excessive and the cases are still showing powder residue on the sides after firing.

Well, loading for the single six is kind of a no-mans-land deal as far as I can tell. The SAAMI max for the 32 H&R is only 21,000 CUP. With a 120 gr. bullet you're not looking at much more than 1000 fps out of a short barrelled revolver. Figure the factory load is a 90gr. bullet at what, 1100 fps? But we all know the 32 H&R can be significantly hotrodded in the Contender. There's basically nothing you're going to load it with that will hurt a Contender. But a single six? Hard to say. The cylinders aren't very large in diameter, and the 32 chambering removes quite a bit of metal. I'm sure the load you're using is safe enough, but I have my doubts as to the longetivity of a single six shooting a steady diet of them. I don't know anybody who has shot one enough to know for certain, I may be way off base but I don't push my SS that hard. The contender is another matter, it's easy to get 155gr. cast bullets to 1500 fps with it using a 10 inch barrel.

Nobade,
I'm getting 1350 fps out of a 4 5/8" revolver.
Chrono'd it myself.

Yes, my point exactly. Any published load data says you shouldn't be able to do that. But you and I know it works, and so far is safe. How much pressure are we generating? Who knows. But it's considerably higher than SAAMI max. I'm still curious to talk to anybody who has worn out a single six firing loads like this. Mine's still nice and tight, and maybe they will take a lot more than I think. I do wish the factories would work up some +P data for the 32 H&R for Rugers, K frame Smiths and contenders. (and can't forget Dan Wessons!)
