American Pioneer Powder
« on: September 03, 2004, 05:05:33 AM »
Hey, any you fellas used this 'new' stuff "American Pioneer Powder", yet?? I have heard many good things about this powder but often times 'stories' can be given too much color.

The part I have heard am most interested is the lack of fouling. Both, BP and Pyrodex, foul and sometimes badly. But, if this new stuff is equivalent to either BP or Pyrodex, then I will be switching. I like to shoot and this will allow shooting without all the mess of cleaning so often.

I would expect, from the info I have, that a Rem 209-4 would be in order for this powder. Just like Pyrodex?? Or, does it work better with a standard 209?

Yup, tried it, didn't like it....real coarse stuff, looks like something you'd find in your driveway, gravel looking almost. It's so coarse, it's hard to get volume measures to be consistently the same. If I had a chrono, I'm sure it would have shown quite a variance in shot to shot velocity. Shoots clean but much lower velocity compared with equal volume of goex, hit a couple inches lower at just 50yds! Didn't like that cuz ya need to use more and it costs more! T7 shoots much better and is just as clean and ya get more shots for your $$.
