PDs Endangered????

According to the media, West Texas Black Tail Prairiedogs were almost put on the "Threatened" list due to a PRK style count until it was found out that the "counters" did not take into account the habitat nor the territory these rodents inhabit. What was thought to be only thousands left turned out to be hundreds of thousands!!! As the old saw goes there are lies, da%&^*m lies and statistics.

When I requested infor from the ND Game and Fish they sent me a copy of an article about how the towns are growing steadily despite hunting and poisoning.

In Colorado Blacktailed pds are protected on public land because they(some politically correct, condo dwellin, tree hugger from Boulder in scandals with white socks)  calculated there were less than 200,000. That was news to the thousands of eastern plains farmers who have decent estimations that there are in excess of 6 million.
After last weekend I can assure you there are about 450 less than there was before then.

In some areas they are more worried about the threatened/endangered ?black footed ferrets that prey on the PDs than the PDs. They are afraid somebody might shoot one so they close everything down.

The ferret thing is probably killing more prairie dogs than all hunters put together.  The problem is that ranchers don't want their land confiscated if black footed ferrets are discovered there. Rather than risking the hassles of having an endangered specie on their land, they poison out entire prairie dog colonies. Some say that ferrets are shot on sight to for the same reason.  

This sort of thing seems to happen whenever the urban preservationists get involved with anything.
