Even'in Blackhawk shooters,
You must all realise this is just IMHO, but after a number of BHs my vote as per grips goes to something like the standard as she comes from the factory design.
I have had them both ways, and the only one that ever hurt me and put me out of the shoot'in busness for awhile was a set of Pachmyers.
Ended up with some type of injury deep in the hand. Nothing ever showed up on the surface, but it was a month or two before things healed and I could go back to the .44. This was with 240 - 250 gr cast bullets.
Since that time, I have had at least one more BH. Fired 310 gr and heavier cast slugs through it, and never had any problems with the standard grips.
My current .44 is a 5 1/2" RH and my regular load is a 310gr cast LBT ahead of 19gr of AA #9. This unit was traded for, and came with a set of Pachmyers installed. I have never had any problem with this fine hand gun, and in this case, although I have never tried them, I do not think the smaller factory wood grips would be much fun.
However, there is much difference in the shape of the standard grips with the BH & RH and also a difference in the manner in which they recoil. With the BH design I will stick with the factory type grips.
Keep em com'ing!
