O/T .22 Reed Express Barrels
« on: August 24, 2004, 12:15:48 PM »
A little off topic since we don't have the T/C's ready but:
We just found a contract provider that will be building the barrels. The
standard barrel is all we intend on doing for the CZ-52, we could have a
longer barrel made, but that would have to be done on a hand lathe and the cost would skyrocket to about 600.00. We are also about to finalize a
contract for 10" barrels for the Thompson Center Contender, so that might be a route you can go. I do not know the price yet on the T/C barrels, but the CZ-52 barrels are looking to run about 210.00 and should be ready in about 1 month.

We would like for everyone that is interested to go ahead and secure an order with us. Payment will not be due until they arrive, but we'd like to know how many we need to hold for everyone.

Reed ammo has completed discussions and will become a new advertiser on GBO. Banner to be added when money arrives. So OK for this ad to stay.

I have been wondering when someone would chamber 7.62x25 in a Contender.  (I am assuming that is what Ron means by a CZ-52 barrel for Contender)  Hmmm..if folks ordered one with an extra-long throat for larger bullets...would J.D. ,(SSK) be getting upset with that?  Could be a (proprietary) issue....also...could be a conflict of interest with sponsors.  The Mini-micro/Whisper is merely a 7.62x25 or 30 Mauser with a long throat.
Also...What is the LONG BARREL for the CZ-52 that you were talking about?  Now THAT IS very interesting.  I missed any conversations on here about it...but just this week I was talking about just that....a carbine barrel for a semi-auto pistol ie...  7.62x25 or a 9mm.  That would be pretty cool.

Robert,

No, no no, It is not the 7.62x25 The .22 Reed Express is a 7.62x25 necked down to .22 caliber, with the shoulder blown forward. It equals and surpasses the .22 Hornet in performance, but with better accuracy, and easier loading. The Hornet is very accurate, but it tends to be very picky on what it wants to shoot well. The .22 Reed is not by any means picky and tolerates a wide variety of bullets and powder loaded to a wide range of velocities. Load data will be available in the form of binder pages, for now all we will release is starting data, so the hand loader can develop his loads for his need. We will be offering loaded ammunition as well.

I went to your site after I posted that and realized my error.  Sounds pretty cool.  What about the long barrels?  Tell me more.

The long barrels will only be available for the T/C Contender and T/C Encore. I have not yet secured a deal on them yet so I don't know what the cost will be.
