What to Charge??
« on: August 20, 2004, 03:40:44 AM »
I have a question for all of the gunsmiths on this page.

A guy asked me if I would clean all of his guns for him (five total) before hunting season starts.  I didn't really know what to charge him, and I'm NOT doing it for free.

Any ideas?

It kinda depends of the type firearm your sealing with.  A bolt action rifle is usually the cheapest and they run from $10-25. Auto rifles from $25(742,10-22) to $65(Browning).  Condition is also a factor and what is espected.  This does not include detail stripping the action.  Some mechanisms such as the Marlin M60's reccommend that the trigger assembly not be disassembled unless something is broken..I concur!  There is an extra charge if they want the electro chemical bore cleaning.  These charges are higkly regional and the Brownells survey shows $50-100 but says 'completely stripping, cleaning and checking for wear'.  Some things should not be stripped unless they are malfunctioning... but the weapon is taken completely appart...
