For any Springfield XD types out there
« on: August 23, 2004, 04:07:31 PM »
Went the the range yesterday with a buddy of mine, he mentioned he had a new toy.  Turned out to be a Springfield XD, the 4 inch model in 9mm.  Came home thinking I want one of my own.  I've decided on the 5 inch model in .40 S&W.  Just have a few questions. Does anybody shoot the same model I'm looking at buying? If so what do you think, I'm particulary concerned with break down and clean up.  And does anybody reload for any of the XDs?  If so what has been your experience with reloads?  I know that Glocks don't handel reloads real well.  So I'm curious to know if the XDs are the same way.  One other note, I reload but I have not yet reloaded pistol ammo.
Thanks
Bryan Danley

I'v got a XD40 4 in Service model. Break down could'nt be easier. Confirm that chambers empty and then just lock the slide, turn the lever above the trigger to the vertical position. Release slide, pull trigger(you did check the chamber didn't you?   ) and the slide will slip right off. Remove guide rod & bbl, clean as usual, replace the same & slide, lock it and turn lever back down to horizontal. There hasn't been any reloading issues that I'm aware of,other than start at min and work up,some are rather tight chambered. I'v got the Bi-tone model, there were some finish problems with the early blued/black versions, its probably been resolved by now.

I have a XD9 4" and love it.  Has about 800 rounds through it with WWB, Blazer, Federal Hyrdo-Shok and Corbon +P with no problems.

Take down is super easy and so is the cleaning.

Plus there are lots of new gadgets for the XD in case you get bored     Here's one place that sells some accersories, http://www.xd-gear.com

I sold a couple of these and my customers are very happy with them. We MUCH prefer them to the P.O.S. Glocks which I won't sell.

This is all good info...I am looking to purchase the XD9 Sub-Compact when my pistol permit paperwork comes back.  I'm glad to hear that you guys are happy with them.
