dabigmoose is back after a spine rebuild
« on: July 19, 2004, 09:36:18 PM »
I have been gone from this forum for a few months with
back problems that finally had to be delt with. Funny how
a man will worry about his wife kids and friends and  face numerous
dangerous incounter but will not let a doctor or nurse touch em
and put himself in denial of health problems that are quite
obvious and severe .
Then put himself and others in danger if he were to
get hurt out in the bush or at a time when needed for his skills and not be
ready or able to help and become a burden of mishap to others
himself well i guess i was being foolish and prideful and just plane stupid.

Well after this discketomy my arm doesnt go numb on me anymore
my shoulder doesnt hurt all the time and my neck for once feels normal
and no more pain meds just to get up out of bed.I can run again
and feel like a pup and the wife has that sparkle and glow again
I did a lot of soul searching laying there in the hospital and wonderd
why did i wait so long to see a doc it was almost to late because i also
had canal stenois were the vertbrae is cutting off nerves to the arm
due to some i broke somtime years ago and kept going.really smart huh.

Oh well i know better now the things they can do with modern medicine
well i can probably crawl back in a few bear dens this winter with a flash light and pistol just like the good ole days.  ANY WAY IM BACK

Moose
Glad to see your doing better!
In 84 I had 4 ruptured disc's in the lower back, went in and had a laminetomy on 2 of them the other 2 the doctor said were not quite bad enough to cut out the bulges. He told me I'd be looking at another serious back operation within 15 yrs. or so.
Holy chit was he right, in 97 I ruptured 3 more. Sure the hell isn't fun having a screwed up back, your whole life style has to change. The doctor in 84 told me I am not to pickup more than 30 LBS. the rest of my life     I said no way.... how am I supposed to even go grocery shopping, bag of canned goods weigh that much:cry:
Good luck, hope you continue to get stronger.........

gentlemen,
I too have had a laminectomy (1998). I waited a year before I ever got mine diagnosed, always figured it would just go away. Dezertyote, your statement about the 15 years does not fall on deaf ears. My doctor told me the same exact thing. However, I want to add my doctor also told me that it may take a year to 18 months before I would feel completely right, and it did. So I guess what I'm saying dabigmoose, is hang in there, and glad to hear that you are on the road to recovery.

Ya i been smiling and doing the yes dear thing. I should be able
to get out and bag a Moose at the last half of the season figure ill
call em in and the kids can packem out. I was wondering
how the Brown Bear faired this year on the incidental /indangerment to tourist kill list. I hope we will get to have a season on the Penns. I still want too get one more of those pig shaped Boars before they close it down forever and make it into some bear viewing area.
well good to here from ya and talk at ya later

Dabigmoose:  Welcome back my friend.  I am glad that things worked out for you.  I am in the same boat, had mine done in 86.  I still carried out a 5'4" bear hide and four quarters this spring.  Getting old I guess as I had to go back for the back straps. :)

It will be good to have your support and expertize back on the forums.  I am headed out to fill a cow moose draw tag next weekend myself.  Can you loan me any of those kids?  I can have them practice carrying mine out!

Dabigmoose,

Glad to hear that you are able to still affect a dent in the local moose population! :)  I settled for a small one so left a larger one out there for ya!

BTW, I talked with Jeff S. at F&G two weeks ago and the D.L.P. count was only 5! So far, so good! I'm with ya that one day soon the Kenai brown bear will take on the status of "sacred cow!"  :(   At least for this year, there should be a season.

Take care and keep listening to momma! :)

best,
Mark
