The pump by all means! I own a 760 in 30-06, and have killed many Caribou with it. I also feel good carrying it hunting for Moose and bears. Some people say that a pump is too slow for a followup shot, but it's been proven that a pump can be shot accurately faster than a simi-auto. More improtantly the pump is reliable. The only drawback is if you handload you may have to use small base dies. I do. But I also load for my wife's 7400 which also requires small base dies. When firing a pump you have to get into the mind set of shoot, pump. After each shot automaticlly pump. That way you are ready for a followup shot if needed. Also when you shoot the hand holding the forearm should be pulling backwards, to keep the gun tight against the shoulder. That pressure starts the pump action following the shot, just follow through. Now you have shot and reloaded without taking your eye from the sight/scope, or removing the gun from your shoulder. Yea, lever guns are supposed to work that way also, but I have seen few people that could do it that way. Most people will take the gun from the shoulder to reload. I don't have mush faith in those new cartridges yet. My neighbor has one and can't seem to get it to settle down and shoot properly. I think its funny also, he got two stitches from a scope bite. It healed, then three months later the same doctor put in two more stitches using the scares from the first two. We tease him that he should have had the doc just sew in a zipper. He's all over the paper anyway. Those short magnums do have some recoil.
