:D Hi, I am near the Syracuse area and I am not familiar with where gloversville is.  Obviously, based on my lack of knowledge, I could not tell you where you can shoot, but I do know that a lot of the towns around here have sportsmen clubs with ranges.  It is just a matter of finding one close and finding out how to join.
I would like to move to Montana and can't figure out for the life of me why you would want to come back after you escaped.

Either way, good luck and let us know when you get in town.

Spencer

Leave Montana?

I too, am curious as to why you wanted to leave the Big Sky state.  Was it something you didn't like about it?  Or was it a specific reason that you needed to come back to NY?
Anyway, Gloversville is out near Amsterdam, right?  If you can't find a local club to join, I imagine you can find a piece of State Land where it may be safe to shoot.  If you do this, just make sure you got a good backstop, like an earthen berm or a hill.
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

tjf76 - Raging480 is right about the location.  My Mother's family is from Gloversville and there are numerous gun clubs with adequate ranges in that neck of the woods.  You shouldn't have any problems finding a good place to shoot and good comraderie in the process.

It's interesting you are coming back from Montana.  My girlfriend's parents live out near Missoula and they have asked me out for a visit.  I'll look fer ya on the way out.  Mikey.

Tom;
I've travelled by Gloversville several times in the past, and it doesn't seem so populated that you couldn't find a place to shoot!
Looking at the map, it pretty much looks wide open around there!
If you got a couple of acres of land, you should have enough room to shoot without bothering the neighbors!

The law says you must be 500 feet away from the neighbors buildings, unless you have their permission, before you can legally shoot!
Of course, most places you have to be outside of the city limits too!

I consider myself lucky, I shoot from my deck!

I used to be in Gloversville for work occaissionally and I worked for a time in the Coleco Factory in Mayfield, New York.

While the surrounding area is pretty, unless something dramatic has happened the economy is poor; I would not pick it as somewhere that a young man could carve out a prosperous future for himself.

Most ranges in upstate NY are small gun clubs that you have to pay a small fee to join. They are rarely busy outside of "sightin' in weekend."

Guess I should have read more carefully before I spouted that "young man" stuff.  :-)

tjf76, I shoot in a winter 3 position league (.22), with the Pine Tree Club being one of the participating clubs.  This club is where benchrest shooting got its' start.  They have something for everyone.  You would be hard pressed to find a better club in that area.  If you get back this way, or would llike some more info, I can put you in touch with a member of that club, who shoots our winter league.  Best Wishes, Joe
