#1. I very highly doubt that any .357 HP is going to blow you in half. It is reports like these that give the whole "stopping power" debate fuel, and simply is obsurd. I would really be interested in seeing that ME's report. It would be a first of anything like that.

#2. And even the .44 Mag has problems. Please read the link below. The story is under the introduction. Yes, this is VERY typical in self defense shootings. A little different than the CCW instructors told ya' huh?

It did happen back in the 80's the guy was in half and the debate started about the cops carring hollow point bullets.  The bullet could of hit the guy in the lower back bone and severed it?  Or if we remember back then we had exploding upon impact mercury filled bullets too and just maybe the cop had those? Who knows but the guy was in half.  And with 44's we shoot what we can handle and shoot accurately, i'm not a small guy and there is no way a 44 could knock me on my butt it just doesn't have that much power plus i have been shooting 44's for around 30 years now.  Its been mainly my CC weapon too both 5 1/2" & 7 1/2" barrels. :D   BigBill

There was a state cop here years ago who blew a guy in half with a 357mg with hollow points while the guy had an automatic weapon.  Of course the crap hit the fan about hollow points then but they never said anything about being fired upon by a automatic weapon. :-D

I visited the godfather of my youngest son in the hospital the night this sheriff's deputy was shot in the upper arm with a 357 magnum.

The bad guy was in custody after the deptuty's dog disarmed the guy and the duputy put his gun to the guys head and then cuffed him.

What blew off a lot of muscle but didn't stop the deputy was a light 357 magnum the exploded on the surface and didn't penetrate.

Personally, I like really heavy 180 grain to 200 grain 357 Magnum bullets that will deliver "magnum velocity" but much more importantly real penetration.

I have seen light bullets do horribly in .357. I carry one for duty 12hr. a day and will never use anything lighter than 158gr. And going against a lot of grains, I will even prefer a .38 LRN 158gr. over a magnum 125gr. JHP. Just me, though.
