Revolver Grips

Being somewhat of a tinkerer (and also cheap) I'm looking for a way to personalize the grips on one of my revolvers.  I've looked at folks selling new grips and don't want to spend the money, but I would like to make my gun look different than everyother import replica.  Do any of you pards have ideas to dress up my shooter?

That's a good idea, and I may well contact those folks.  But what I had in mind was maybe a rough form of checkering I could attempt myself.  I'm guessing that "back in the time" some cowboys either with an artistic streak or out of boredom took a knife to a wooden grip.  I can't recollect ever seeing anything like this in photo's of orginals or museum pieces but I gotta believe that somthing simple like this was done.
