The .50 Alaskan was a wildcat cased on a .348 Winchester case blown out to .50 caliber. It was chambered in rebarreled Winchester M71 and late production M1886 Winchesters. Produced out of a gunshop in Alaska in the 1960's.
It was designed for a peculiar niche market...that of closeup stopping power on dangerous Alaskan brown bears, moose and elk.
Expensive non-standard bullets and limited market is what killed it.
No, I don't think either Marlin or Winchester will make them standard rifles. It's not cost effective to produce rifles that have such a specialty market when more popular calibers such as .480 Ruger and .475 Linebaugh are available. It's more likely that the S&W .50 will be a standard chambering.
As for wanting one, the Ruger Number One is a more suitable platform for this powerhouse.
