200grn spire pts in .358w for black bears?
« on: August 23, 2004, 02:15:45 PM »
Am going to Idaho the last of sept. for a black bear hunt w/Boulder Creek Outfitters. I've handloaded 225btips,225part. and 200spire pts.for this trip. I thought the 225part. would work best, but the outfitter recommended that I shoot the 200spires. Said, shots might be as far as 200yds and didn't think 225's would work as well as the 200spires.  Whats are you guys opinions????? Thats in advance......

I'm interested in why you chose an Outfitter who's opinion you may not trust. 8)

And I'm interested in why you'd chose an outfitter who knows no more about guns and ballistics than this guy seems to. Go with the 225 PT. If you actually get a shot you'll be glad you did. Run the numbers and you'll see how silly his comment was.

Talon, I trust the outfitter, I thought he might not be very familiar with the 358win cartridge. You guys are always talking about loads and bullets and seem to know the ins and outs of alot of calibers.Thought maybe you guys had some insight that this particular outfitter might not have with this caliber...To be honest I haven't shot any game animals with this gun yet,but I have shot paper..and its pretty accurate with all those loadings...
GB, I think I'll take both the 200spires and 225partitions, use the 225's and have the 200's as extra. Thanks....... :D
