Remington 870 mag tube question
« on: November 28, 2004, 01:19:39 PM »
Hey all,
 :D

I have two Remington 870's. One is the home defense gun with the +2 tube, (six or seven with 1 in the pipe) the other is the long barreled version, I guess you call it a "hunting" gun.

I'd like to add a +4 tube to this long shotgun as it only holds 4 now (5 with one in chamber). My question is this: Is this legal?

Also, where might I find the laws governing this? I live in North Carolina.

Thanks in advance for any info!!

It is legal under federal law, don't know about your state. I would call the Sheriffs office to find out. And your Fish and Game dept. must publish rules for legal hunting implements.

I'm in N.C. also. You can have only three shells in the gun while out in the field. One in the chamber and two in the tube. I have a Mossberg 500 with the seven shot mag. tube 20'' barrel and I was thinking about getting another barrel for hunting and trap but I think I may just get another shotgun instead.

It doesn't matter what the magazine capacity is, for hunting, as long as it is plugged to hold only two rounds.  So you might have to make your own extra-long plug.  I've done that with a simple wooden dowel, radiused on the ends so as to not hang up on the spring.
