:-) Does anybody know when Smith and Wesson started using the blue plastic gun cases instead of the cardboard boxes that their guns used to come in?

I think the second question is:When did they switch to Hogue grips. That's been at least six years too.

It was a LOT more than 6 years ago on the blue plastic boxes I'm sure. I bought a used .41 Magnum 6" with that plastic box back in '97 or '98 I'm pretty sure it was. As to the Hogue grips the 629 Classic DX I bought a LONG time prior to the above .41 mag came with a set and a set of wood grips both.

My Classic DX came in the blue cardboard box but with Hogue grips. Might be wrong but am pretty sure I bought it prior to '94 but sure won't bet the farm on it.

I recently had a modle 14 delivered in 1999 in a cardboard box. The box was red white and blue, I have only seen two other similar boxes, both from 1999.

With S&W, as soon as you think you have it figured out POW another exception.

The model 14 I bought was a 8-3/8 barrel with blue frame and nickle cylinder, barrel, thumblatch. I found a local dealer that said they where sold via highest bidder to any smith dealer that supplied guns to police departments, these where sold to an Ill. dealer that bought all of the 16 guns made in this configuration. I bought mine from an attendee at a Indianapolis gun show.

This seemed strange to me but I heard same story from two different sources 150 miles apart.
