Hi Summitx
Hunted that area many a time .If ya have a boat go toward the Dam
end and you will see the lake bottle necks a little and on your left side
there is Stetson Creek and a good place to land the boat.
walk up stetson creek until ya see the old cooper mt. glacier area it opens
up a little there .I have taken my boys up there and taken
many a bruin. I also have taken one on the dam its self
on the cecil roads side. There also is a trail that runs
10 miles down to coopers landing if ya want come in that way along
cooper creek.
If ya are on foot park at the aqua duct and head  up towards
Cecil roads mount. I have seen many good size blacks up there.
The other option is the russian lakes trail or hike
around that end of the lake behind cooper mountain ,i have ran into the occassional brownie.
During the week you should not see to much pressure but it is moose season. The best times i have had were in October after the leaves have
dropped and in the spring many a bear around the lake edges.
They raised the level of the lake a few years ago but when its low
those bears come to eat the snails around the rocks of the lake.

Thanks for the info, I think I might give it a try, I have a small inflatable so I think I will head towards the dam area. Also as far as the spring, what time frame and just kinda cruise around the lake would be good. Thanks again Steve

hi Steve
went to cooper lake today a lot of moose hunters around but they are hunting to low. The lake water is low do to dam enviromental impact assesment going on at  cooper creek due to the dam. There use to be a large run of Rainbow trout and King salmon that went up the creek before the dam was built.
Any way the spring hunt is at the end of may or first part june depends when the ice goes of the lake and snow from road. When moose season is over try around oct 10 the leaves should be gone there are many a bear still around this area.
