Remington 700 Police
« on: January 17, 2003, 12:21:58 PM »
Anyone have any experience with the Remington 700 police(PSS)? I am looking at one in 300 Win Mag.
Would there be a significant difference from the 700 Sendero?

The Police and Senderos are virtually identical.  The only exception is that the Police version has a different HS Precision stock.  Other than that - it's the same.

One of our members recently informed us that Remington examines the barrels and puts the "best" barrels on the Police guns.  I cannot confirm this - I can only confirm what one of our members said.  How Remington does this - I don't exactly know.  For all we know Remington may just be saying that so that they can charge more for the Police version.

Let me put it to you this way - I own a Sendero SF in .300 Win. Mag.  It shoots Sub 1" groups at 100 yards - and that's a brand new gun that has only fired about 18 shells.  My point is - you can't go wrong with the Sendero - but if you really like the feel of the Police stock, and don't mind spending about $100 more, then get the Police version.  Other than that - the guns are the same.

Thanks Zachary,
I wasn't sure if there was much difference. I can't believe someone at Remington actually selects the better barrels, but who knows. Maybe for the 40XB.
What made you choose the Sendero in the 300.
I am looking for one for long distance competition and whitetail and moose hunting. Something I can use double duty.

Keep in mind that I selected the Sendero SF (Stainless Fluted), not the regular black matte.   The difference in weight is about 1/2 a pound lighter and not as front heavy.  I bought this gun at a time when the .300 Ultra Mags were (and to some extent still are) popular.  I thought to myself - 1000 yard benchrest shooters shoot 300 Win Mags, not Ultra Mags.  So accuracy should generally be good from this cartridge.  As such, I went ahead and got the 300 Win. Mag.    As for the Sendero SF, I had heard many good things about them.  The HS Precision stocks with full length aluminum bedding block sounded stable, and thicker barrels reduce vibration, and thus can enhance accuracy.  Another reason I got the SF was because I got a great deal on it.  $700 including shipping - NIB - sealed box!

Now, if I had a choice between the Police and the regular Sendero - like I said - pick both up and see which one feels better in your hands.  I think that the Police is about $100 or so more than the Sendero.  I also think that the Police stock from HS is more expensive than their Sendero stock - as such, this may be part of the reason why the Police version is more expensive than the Sendero version.

The Police version are harder to locate, and, as supply and demand go, you will not be able to get as good of a deal on a Police than you normally could with the Sendero.  Either way, you can't go wrong with either gun.  Just see who gives you the better deal.

Zachary,
Thanks again for the info. I called my gunshop and inquired about the 700 PSS and the Sendero(matte).
The Sendero is $1139 and the 700 Pss is $1399 Canadian. Either one will take 6 weeks delivery.

I have a 700 Sendero with the Bull Barrel in a 25-06, the one thing you want to keep in mind is this gun with a good piece of glass on it is HEAVY, VERY HEAVY.  This is not something you want to walk several miles with...just a word of caution.  It is a real tack driver
if this is what you are looking for......

Thanks Twig,
The hunting I would do with this would be stand hunting so I wouldn't be hauling it around too far.
I have a Win Model 100 for that in 308.
Nice to know it's a tack driver.

I was the one who posted earlier about Remington hand picking the parts for the 700P. I can't say they acctually do this, It's just what they told me. I recently shot a freinds 700P in 300 win mag and I realy didn't care for the HS stock they put on it. The palm swell was huge. Didn't fit my average sized hand very well at all. Personally I would opt for the Sendaro.  KN

700 Police vs Sendero
« Reply #8 on: January 20, 2003, 12:45:05 PM »
I purchased a Sendero this past fall in 300 WM and carried it deep into the Adirondack mountains. Promptly shot big 8 pt at 8:45 AM got it out to 2 track at 4:30 PM. It is an extremely heavy rifle but it was worth the carry. It is the most stable platform I have ever shot with especially with 300 WM. Get a good sling with wide shoulder strap and you will be fine. Weight of rifle is over stated. My back pack weighs in at 35 pounds or so which is not overly heavy for most folks so why would a rifle weighing one more measy pound be such a difference. I have carried rifles at 10,500 ft. and didn't see any problem. The Sendero shot MOA with just about any bullet I fed it. It was the first rifle I have ever owned that shot Partitions as well as SPBT's so I am thrilled with its performance. I agree with previous post, pick em both up and see which one feel right and go for it, you won't be sorry. By the way, Remington stopped making the Sendero in 300 WM last year so they will be getting scarce soon.
