Hello buckenbass, Sorry to hear about no handgun hunting in NJ that really sucks  Living here in the great state of OHIO, I will be using .357 Max for deer , .22 Match for tree rats. 6.5 JDJ for ground hogs.

« Reply #31 on: August 23, 2004, 05:00:07 AM »
I'm starting deer season with the XP100 in .260 w/Burris 2x7 BPlex.
Next for a doe will be the XP100 7BR w/Bushnell 2x6
If I got for Elk in Nov. it will be the Contender 14" SSK .375JDJ.
Varmints are catching heck right now from the Contender 14" .223 and the Contender 21" 17HMR.
Good luck all

Mike

300 Whisper or 44mag for deer. 22LR for squirrels.  This year I am goint to try to kill a duck with my Contender 45/410 pistol.  I'll be using 3" Bismuth #4 shells in case the game warden happens by.

Boy i sure hope I don't get to the sorry state so many of you boys are in where you have so many barrels to choose from, you start feeling guilty about having to neglect some of the others....

This being said, I currently have two barrels, I thought this would be all I'd ever need, a 10" .22LR match for squirrels and a 'matching' 10" .44MAG for whitetails.

As mentioned in my other post, Then my buddy calls last night from MT (recently relocated from PA) and tells me he's got some premium ranch land access and that I'd better plan on putting in for MT antelope/elk/deer tags for next season.  So now I'm thinking about adding a factory .375JDJ to the collection, and if possible breaking it in this season on a deer or 2 here in PA.

Drop the Hammer, I will never admit to having too many barrels and I doubt many others will either, BUT, I will have to admit to not shooting as well with any barrel as I used to when I had many less.  Part of it can be blamed on aging eyes and arthritic hands, but remember the old saying "beware of the man who has only one gun, because he just might know how to use it." I'm trying to make myself pick out one...well, OK make it two, be familiar with it and practice, practice, practice.

:) 7MM Super Bower, .356 Be11m Short case, .357 B&D, and probably .357 Herrett and .35 Rem in the Contender pistol.. I will use 7x30 waters, .35 Rem, and 30-30 Bullberry in carbine.. The season opens Sept 15 for archery and Oct 1st for primitive weapon and Oct 12 or so for Centerfire. We can deer hunt private land 7 days a week to Jan 1st.. I would go into a major depression if I can't deer hunt at least 40 times this season.. I use a 10 in .218 Bee for them coyotes and a .223 iin 14 inch..  8) from cbagman

The Encore will going west for Muley and Elk this fall with the 15 inch plus brake SSK 376 Steyr on board.
I am just about done fine tuning some 260 gr. Nolser Accubonds for it.
More than enough for in close, but most shots are in the 200 to 300 yard range, which is what I practice at the most.

On local whitetail it'll be one of the new 15" Encore barrels I've purchased since the end of last years deer season.....either the .284 Winch., 300 Savage or 6.5x55 Swede.

Well, I'll probably start with my .309 JDJ in a 14" barrel.  Next whitetail with it is #50 for this barrel.  Then I'll switch over to the FAs in .454 for the remainder of the season.
