2 Questions about catfishing

Im fairly new to catfishing and was wondering 2 things. Does catfish hit in the winter? And what pound line should I get? Not sure about the size of the fish.

Yes they will hit in winter. I use 30lb fireline for the main line and 20 lb monafilament for leaders.
