Thompson G2 ?
« on: August 29, 2004, 02:00:56 PM »
I was at a gun shop today and saw a G2 209 * 45 magnum muzzleloader. I was very, very impressed. When I got home I started scrounging around on the internet to see what is available. One thing I didn't see was a 20 gauge shotgun barrel. I am correct in saying that a 20 gauge barrel is not available for this rifle?

I know that some guys use contenders and encores as shotguns, but they just don't seem to have the right stock design for the purpose, unless it's for a slug gun or a turkey gun.

I am and have been of the firm position that T/Cs will make great Turkey guns.  Benelli started a trend with their Steadygrip turkey gun and now Remington has a thmbhole stocked turkey gun.  The other manufacturers are sure to follow suit.  What is great about an exaggerated pistol grip designed shotgun is the comfort it can provide sitting there for long periods of time, and if the need be Ive heard of guys shooting on their offsides holding the gun just by the pistol grip.  While I have not fired it in such a manner I found that I can indeed hold my Encore .10-06 using just the pistol grip.  Add a bi-pod (again which the Encore hold an advantage for,) and your talking dead turkey.  Im just suprised T/C has yet to offer their Turk bbls in 3 1/2" mag (not that I really need it  :) .)

I feel in love with pistol grips on shotguns 2 years ago. I bought a tactical stock for my Winchester Black Shadow turkey gun. Wouldn't you know it, the first time I tried it, I had to hold my gun in the ready position for about 45 minutes. Because of the tactical stock I had, no fatigue what so ever. A few people have looked at my shotgun and just laughed, until they hold it for a while.
