Marsh-The length of the bullet is the determining factor in each caliber for finding which twist is going to work best. No matter how long or short the barrel is, a 1-18" twist will stabilize the bullet the same. Shorter bullets will be better stabilized by a slower twist and a longer bullet needs a faster twist.
