Anyone work up something stellar for elk up to 300 yards and under in the .270 winchester caliber? Factory loads work for you in the past?

My buddy has taken four of them with the 270 and he just uses the 150 grain bullets. I'd pick the Barnes X bullet because of weight retention and because it is reported to have the best penetration of any of the expanding bullets.

I would think that 150 gr nosler partitions would perform will on an elk.

Nosler has just released a 140 grain Partition. Might be a good one also. 150 Gr. Speer Grand Slam might be nice also. I think Speer loads them in the Nitrex loads.

One that you should also check out is Winchester's 140 gr. Accubond load. New this fall. Great reviews in the Magizines. Shooting Times has a nice article in the August or Sept. issue. Takes a elk in the article with them.

I had good results on a cow last year with 140 grain Partitions loaded with IMR 4831. This year I will be using Accubonds loaded with H4831 because they group a little better. Jim
