Question for fellow veterans..
« on: August 08, 2004, 06:51:30 PM »
I have been going to the Va clinic, usually about once a year...just to keep my account open.
I have a regular GP, but go to the VA about once a year...just in case I should someday need it.
The VA always said that I should not need to tell my regular health care plan about my VA appointments....because they have no need to know.
I last visited the VA last Sept, almost a year ago.....
Lo and behold, I recently received a bill from my health care plan for $34.91 for that visit!!!
Is the VA now turning to the private plans for payment?

Don't know if the VA card is worth keeping, if they are going to bill my insurance plan anyway...

Surprisingly, I didn't know that the VA even knew who my health care plan provider was...I didn't tell them!

       Comments vets?

Wow! I've never heard of that happening before. I just filled out my papers for the VA. I got a book from them that I believe must be in greek cause I've read it and still don't know what I'm covered for. :? I have a sister who works for the VA hospital in Arizonia. I'll bounce the question off of her next time we talk.... Let ya know what I find out.

I've been dealing with the VA a good bit over the last 3 yrs. or so but don't have a health care plan so I can't be very helpful in that respect.

Have you tried calling them up and asking what the deal is?

Best info I can get is that they are submitting those bills to our HCPs.
  New thing, I guess.
Since I am neither a wounded or disabled vet., I don't mind greatly, since I'm just going once annually, "keeping my options open".
I do hope that things continue unhindered for the wounded/ disabled.

I have a 2003 Edition booklet titled: Federal Benefits for Veterans and Dependants...   If you look on page 9 it describes how they bill insurance companies. I'm sure the VA would send you one or have a copy at the VA hospital next time you go. I'm not done reading mine yet. Have a hard time understanding it all...  Hope it helps.
