50 cal Muzzleloader Encore Pistol
« on: October 01, 2004, 07:48:38 AM »
Will I just got on a lease in Maryland and able to use a muzzleloading pistol in muzzleloading season. I have a .50 cal Encore pistol muzzleloading barrel and just put on a Bushnell trophy 2X6x28 scope on it. Now I will have to work up a good load for it.  :D  Should be fun. :-D

It is a lot of fun!!

I would suggest you start with triple 7 powder and a sabot/bullet combination weighing around 250 grains.  This works well in my barrel.  For some reason the Powerbelts that shoot so well in my Encore rifle barrel don't shoot that well in the pistol length barrel.  Go figure.

Good luck!!

I will try the sabot/bullet combination. I was going to try the powerbelts and triple7 like I shoot in my Encore muzzleloader. I have several different sabots and different bullets sitting around.  :D

I will be by Bridgetown. About 8 miles from Goldsboro and 15 miles from Centerville in Queens Annes County. This place is over run with deer.  :D   I think it would be a blast to take a deer with the Muzzleloader pistol.

I went and did some shooting with the M/L pistol. Here is my brief range report. I shot 100 gr. of triple7 and 295 gr. power belts with the 209 primer. I had a horizontal string and  accuracy was not what I wanted. I then tried some 240 gr. Hornady with Knight green sabots and triple7 and the horizontal string went away a little and accuracy got a little better. I then tried a few other sabots and bullets and the accuracy went out the window. I then changed to 100 gr. of Pyrodex and the 295 gr. powerbelts with the 209 primer and accuracy improved and no horizontal stringing. I them tried the 240 gr. Hornady bullets in the Knight green sabots and the groups got real tight and was constant. So I think I will stick with the 100 gr. of Pyrodex 240 gr. Hornady bullets in the Knight green sabots and 209 primers for deer hunting this year.  :D

Is it legal to use that ml pistol in DE? I've never seen anything in writing either way. I've considered getting one to play around with. I went out on my 1st hunt with my eencore this afternoon and passed on some little does. Your right about the deer in that area. I saw a heard of 25or 30 there last month.
PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

Markus, you cannot hunt with a muzzleloader pistol in Delaware, but if you look  at the regs on line you can us one for a finishing shot. I am going to use my Encore M/L pistol in Maryland.  :D
