i need help deciding!!!! deal fell thru wtt rossi
« on: September 03, 2004, 05:21:42 PM »
i own a rossi 92 stainless in 45lc.
i have had it cut down to 16" and have installed one of the big loop levers on it.
i know a feller who has a 1969 buffalo bill winchester model 94 in 30-30
he says it is unfired in like new condition.
he may trade with me gun for gun should i do it??
i like this little rossi but it isnt real accurate out passed 50 yards
i have always wanted a long barrel 30-30 that i can install some good sights on and shoot some longer ranges with
yall let me know as i am supposed to meet up with them tomorrow and look at the bb and let them look at my rossi
any help on this would be appreciated
thanks,
sureshot
yes the barrel was cut down and crowned correctly by a cowboy action gunsmith.
the rossi is very accurate out to abt 75yrds but i want to do some 200-300 yard shooting and want either a 30-30 or 38-55 to do it with
i already own a buffalo classic that so far has shot out to 500 yrds
i have pics of my gun if anyone is interested

Who cut down the rossi and was it crowned right. 30-30 will give you a lot more range. Go for it.

That was my first thought about the accuracy issue, too.

I would prefer a good 30-30 myself, for most hunting, but that chopped 92 would be a good back pack gun if the original lever was put back on it.  There's a pocket that runs down the side of my Kelty long frame that holds a short, iron-sight rifle very well.  As of now, I'm even still limber enough to get a rifle out without taking the pack off :) .

i just read what i have in my original post
i would like to clarify
the rossi will produce abt 3inch groups out to abt 75 yards
but i want something with a longer barrel and more power to shoot tighter groups out to around 200-300 yards. the rossi would probably shoot better with better sights than the factory originals on it
i was planning to upgrade the ones that are on it and may still do so if i dont trade it off. i just got the bug when the pard with the buffalo classic thought he wanted to trade.
so i am still open to trades if anyone has a long barreled 30-30 or 38-55 winchester of marlin
thanks,
