Need load for 45 Colt/410 Handy Rifle

I have tried a few reloads in my handy rifle, namely lead with very poor accuracy, about 6" at 30 yards, then a few jacketed 185 grainers with about the same results. These loads were set up for my 45 colt Uberti, but ended up being fired in the handy rifle.  Can anyone recommend a good load for decent accuracy? Is it safe to use a load that is suitable for the Ruger Vaquero or is that a little too stout?

Kelly, you are going to have to teach us about this one. None of the regulars shoot it and we've been curious. It should be plenty strong for any sane .45 Colt load.

Are you still using the bead? That alone would limit your accuracy severely. If you have any kind of decent sights on it, we'd know more about the accuracy of the load and rifle.

The sights are direct from NEF. I ordered them directly, cost me $30.00 as I recall. I haven't done much reloading for it since my first attempt gave such lousy results. I will get a few loads worked up and post the results. It may take a little while, since I retired, I don't seem to have time for anything. The reloading room needs a GOOD cleaning, (organizing the bench clutter sure would help) and I haven't even had time to set up my new shotshell reloader. Mercy, Mercy!

Yep, keep us up on your progress, there was a lot of speculation about the long jump the bullet has to get to the rifling since the chamber is long enough for the 410 shell.

I have a 45Colt/410 survivor model.  I load Lee 200gr tumble lube cast from ww over 5.8gr Unique ond get minute of clay pigion at 100yds,  this load is like shooting a .45acp round out of a rifle no recoil (and a very strange report  kind of like thhhuummmp).  My other loads are 300gr. bullets using the Ruger/thompson loads  these loads are picked from the middle of charges listed ( I pick a load that falls right between min and max of 296 or H110 ).   I have not shot any of my loads for groups .  I just plink, but a clay pigion at 100yds usually gets hit if I do my part.  I can only say that these loads are safe and show no pressure sighns in my gun.   Hope this helps  you guys have helped me out a lot....lost
