Yesterday after the GMA piece that Diane Sawyer did on the AWB I sent an e-mail to GMA. I told them how unethical it was to dupe the public that doesnt know the difference between a golf club and a gun. To show the N.Hollywood shoot out with bank robbers using machine guns which have been banned since 1932 and are not affected by the AWB and at the same time talking about how bad it is to lift the ban. ect, ect.

This evening on the ABC evening news ol Peter Jennings had to eat just a little crow. He showed the N.Hollywood footage and said that a viewer pointed out that the ban did not affect the guns shown, but went on to get in his jab, that it would affect the magazines. If it was my e-mail I will never know, but at least they put a little blurp on that some one with a mind might see.

Kudos to you, Big Medicine. I, like you, am very frustrated by the lack of facts and truth that comes out of our media. I wrote a letter to the editor of our local paper to try to inject some truth into what is said about the AWB; I'm not holding my breath for it to have any affect.

Actually the date of the first firearms act was 1937, and it did not ban machineguns, but rather made them Class III weapons, subject to a federal tax and separate background check.
It is legal to own machineguns in the US, if you are an honest citizen, with deep pockets to pay for them, and their transfer tax.

I would consider them banned, most folks just cant get through the hoops to have one. It is just not something that the average joe can afford or have the vault to keep one.

I have been thinking about this thing and will probably contact the FCC and file a complaint with them. Those get looked at when it is time renew the license. It sure cant hurt.

I've emailed all of our local TV stations several times. They all used to show a picture of a handgun in the background EVERY time a murder was being reported. Knife, axe, rifle, shotgun, car, even a sword, didn't matter to them, still showed a handgun. One reporter said, so what? Sue me. They have since quit that. I pointed out that they were conveying the message that handgun meant murder. One mgr said that she didn't make that connection til I pointed it out to her. Don't just let these things slide, COMPLAIN, do it respectfully, and do it often. POWDERMAN.

I would assume that the problem there is with your local jurisdiction, as most places have no restrictions beyond the federal laws. I know quite a few people who have class III weapons, and have a good friend who is a Class III dealer, and it isn't a problem here. We even have a local gun club where they have class III shoots a couple times a year.
