All set up for the season
« on: September 07, 2004, 06:26:30 PM »
Well boys and girls, it is just about that time of year again.  Bow season starts in less than three weeks for me, but this is a Handgun Hunting Forum.  I've got four handguns set up for deer season (Black bear, too.)
I am going to be hunting with the following:
S&W 686 6" bbl, handloaded with 180 grain CPBC WFNGC hard cast bullet over 13 grains of W-296.
S&W model 28 6"bbl converted to .45LC, handloaded with a 265 grain CPBC WFNGC over 8.5 grains of Unique
S&W 657 Classic Hunter II with an Ultradot 4, shooting a 250 grain CPBC WFNGC over 20 grains of Li'l Gun.
Desert Eagle Mark VII .41 magnum with a JPoint optic, shooting 210 grain Hornady XTP over 21.5 grains of W-296.
I need to add this comment for you wise guys, I will be hunting with these guns, one at a time. :-D
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

Raging480:  Mikey is getting all set to go too.  I'm setting up my S&W M28 (3.5" bbl) with 200 gn swcs over 12.4 of 296, my M29 (4") with 300 gn fn or swcs over 19.5 of H110, and a couple of 444s with either 300 or 330 gn loads.  I'm smokun.................

Now, for the 12 guage 870 - standard Remington fodder that groups 5 shots into one large hole at 50 yds - can't do better'n that.

Now, notice I identified only two revolvers - that's because I have only two hands - lol.......

BTW, I like the idea of your M28 converted to 45 LC - who did the work for you??  Mikey.

Actually Mikey, I found it on Gunbroker.  Someone put a .45LC bbl and cylinder on it, and parkerized it black. (oooh, evil color, don't tell my senators, they might freak out.)  I put some silver/black laminate grips on it, and away we go.  Its the kind of gun I will probably use when it is rainy or snowy.  One thing I might change since it is hitting a bit high, I might put a bead on top of the front sight, and replace the rear sight with a v-notch.  With open sights I figure I can hit out to about 50 yards with it.  With that big heavy hard cast bullet, I can expect good penetration, and 'eat right up to the hole.'
