Moose hunt over.

Well I spent the weekend trying for a cow moose with the bow in the Fairbanks area.  Saturday night I had a spike/fork bull walk up to me and stand broadside at 15 yards and dare me to shot him. Well with my tag I could only shoot a cow.  If I did not have the special tag......dead moose.  So I let down and passed.

Then latter that night a bull informed me of his presence 400 yards away as dusk settled.

Next morning I spotted a legal cow and stalked within 30 yards as she browsed just inside the brush line.  After about 2 minutes and no ethical shot she laid down.  I watcher her for an hour before my bladder informed me of an upcomming unpleasent event that I was going to endure if I did not change my present condition.  So I threw 2 quarters behind her and only manged to loose 50 cents and scaring her in the only direction that I did not have a shot.

Sunday night another bull and I managed to make it within 60 yards.  He was in some heavy brush so I shook some brush and tried to grown like him.  I only managed to scare him off.  Different bull though.

Saw one calf yesterday and that was it.  No meat but it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot about moose.  Could of had one though!

Some of my most enjoyable hunts have been ones where I never shot a thing.

Sure was hoping to hear you had success.

But yup the cooler weather seems to have the bulls moving around.  The last few days of our season I heard reports of bulls with groups of 10-20 cows, bulls thrashing the brush, and generally getting dumber by the day.

Well next year maybe.
