The crown on my new VLS 223 has a small burr on it and my gunsmith said I should send it to Remington to be repaired under warranty. He also said it looks like they didn't do a proper job of putting the 11 degree crown on as it is almost cut straight accross at 90 degrees. I have adjusted the trigger to 2 1/2 lbs. and I am wondering if they will replace the trigger. I am reluctant to send it in for that reason. Has anyone sent their rifle in for work after they have adjusted their trigger?

Adjusting the trigger improperly voids the warranty. Generally they want it resealed with same or similar adhesive to what was on it. As a minimum if you adjusted more than the pull weight screw they will likely readjust it to their factory specs.

If the crown is your only concern it would be cheaper to have the gunsmith do it if he is in fact worthy of the title. He shouldn't charge any more than shipping it back will cost.

Thanks Graybeard, I only adjusted the pull weight. The gunsmith says the barrel is to big to fit in his lathe. I will probably just live with the burr.

Why don't you shoot the rife and see if it's causing any accuracy problems before you make a decision about what to do?

I shot over this weekend and my largest 3 shot group at 100 yards was 1 1/4 smallest was 1/4 inch using 45 grain win. that come in the 40 round pack from walmart. Does this sound like acceptable accuracy for this type of rifle?

To answer your question, Remington will replace (at your expense) a trigger that has been adjusted. The way to go about it is to totally remove the trigger before you send it back.

I've heard of shooters returning their rifles to Remington to be repaired only to find that Remington has kept their expensive Timney and Jewell triggers. Guarantee or not, to me that's theft. Remington can really get under your skin with these kind of antics. Best wishes.

Seems like excellent accuracy...but you might want to put in a Timney trigger just to be safe. Have fun!

Thanks for the info everyone. I emailed Remington and they said I could remove trigger and send it in and the barrel would still be covered under warranty so that is what I did. Hope I did the right thing. That burr just bugged me everytime I looked at it!
