The Lord has a way of revealing those of us who really know him, and thosethat don't! Think about it! Kerry gave a big speech last week about howhis faith is so "important" to him. In this attempt to convince theAmerican people that we should consider him for president, he announced thathis favorite Bible verse is John 16:3. Of course the speech writer meantJohn 3:16, but nobody in the Kerry camp was familiar enough with scriptureto catch the error. And do you know what John 16:3 says?

John 16:3 says; "They will do such things because they have not known theFather or me."
 


Comments:  False. John Kerry never said his favorite Bible verse is John 16:3. Neither did G.W. Bush, who was accused of saying the same thing a few months earlier. Nor did Al Gore, who purportedly said it in 1999.

G.W. Bush's father, President George H.W. Bush, did make precisely this blunder during a speech before a religious broadcasters' conference in 1990, according to newspaper columnist Cal Thomas, who witnessed the event.

Good point, Tubby, but I also poked around enough to see the same blunder attributed to George Bush and Al Gore. When you see the same story told about several different people, it's pretty safe to conclude that the most recent one is false.

Btw, my favorite Bible verse, especially in this context, is John 11:35.

In any case, Kerry's ignorance of the Scriptures is patently evident; especially when he says things like " I don't wear my religion on my sleeve!"

     Biblical Christians will understand just what I mean.

 If one is a REAL Christian, it should be one of their chief identifying factors!

  That's because prayer is personal. Public prayer for the sake of public prayer is mostly ceremonial.

  Proof here is the verse ( Matt6:5 ) is being used out of context and content...

    I Cor 2:14.......and for context, read vs. 11-16...

    2 Tim 3:16,17...one can read the entire chapter for context...

Ironglow,  Matthew 6:5 comes directly from Jesus.  That would seem to me to have considerably more weight than what Paul or Timothy had to say on the matter. Might seem that way to John Kerry, too.

But opinions can differ on religious matters.

   Don't make yourself to appear that way...I didn't say that Matthew 6:5 was written wrong.....I said that you read it wrong...big difference!

   If you and Hanoi John trying to "parse" the word of God, you both would be exhibiting  total misunderstanding of Scriptures, much  as total athiests are unable to fathom even the simplest teachings of Scripture.

   Remember; the word of God is "spiritually discerned"; if one has not the indwelling Holy Spirit, he CANNOT understand ....

    Suggestion: Read John3:16 and take it's advice.....

FWEIDNER. That applies to hanoi john for sure. I truly believe that president Bush is sincere when he prays in public, sort of like trying to lead our nation back to being, ONE NATION UNDER GOD. POWDERMAN.
