I was sitting in my turkey blind this morning listening for any responding gobbles to my hen yelps. I was having a hard time hearing anything due to 20 mph wind gusts when I spotted something out of the corner of my eye. Turned out to be a coyote slinking through the woods making a stalk on my hen decoy. The wind was making the hen bob up and down giving the appearance of a feeding bird. This yote was completely oblivious to anything else except that "bird." I was gonna let him get as close as possible and see if he'd make a rush on the decoy but with the thought of having a twenty dollar decoy damaged I changed my mind. When he closed the distance to about twenty yards I placed the red dot of the scope on his head and neck and burnt him with a load of hevi shot # 6's. The coyote jumped straight up in the air and yipped, obviously hurt before he could recover I racked another round off hitting him with a load of #4's anchoring him for good. This thing was kind of small maybe a year old dog with a thin scraggly looking coat. Oh well no more turkey dinners for this old boy...

Hi frog good to hear how do u like the Hevi shot i shoot Win high Ve. 5's and thinking about trying some what do u think is it work it let me know VM

I can't say enough about the Hevi Shot's, I know the exact load you're talking about. I used to shoot the Winchester #5's back when they were loaded in the gray box with the tree bark camo design. The only complaint I ever had from the Win's was the way they sealed the crimp's, for some reason the buffer leaked out, about as irritating as a pocket full of sand. They were my load up until I went to the hevi shot's for turkey about two years ago. The only negative thing I have to say about them is the cost, about two buck and some change a pop, but once you get your gun patterned just leave it alone. I'm still shooting the same box of ten shells from last year. The way things are going I'm gonna have shells left for next year

Hi Frog u r thinking of the wrong shell i am shooting the New Winchester Supreme High Velocity loads black shells with a 1 3/4 oz of 5's at 1300 fps they r a WAYYYYY better than the old Win that was 2oz loads with the red hull i am thinking about trying some Hevi shot what kind of choke r u useing i use a custom made choke for my 5's VM

I'm using a Star-Dot .668 in my Remington 870 with a 20" barrel. It's shoots the Hevi-Shot really well. I tried four different "turkey" chokes plus the factory full and the Star-Dot came out on top. At 35 yards it put 70 pellets in the head and neck on a paper Primos silly-wet target. I like to got another 'yote this morning. My brother and I was leaving going down a gravel road when I saw a yote standing about thirty yards off the side of the road. I jumped out and drew down on him as he turned to run and got a shot off that peppered him in the behind pretty good. I imagine his behind's gonna be sore for a day or two..

Hi Frog my friend gave me 5 Hevi shotgun shells to pattern my gun in #6 and i got a box of #6 i will be shooting a Ben. Super 90 12ga with a 21 inch barrel i have a custom choke for it to shoot 5's But it is too tight it is a .650 i also have a new UnderTaker HS Strut choke it is .665 i got it for crow hunting i am going to pattern with it my friend has the same set up and he said it pattern great out of that choke with my custom choke with the Win High Ve. 5's at 20 yrs it is like shooting a slug i am going to give the Hevi shot a try and if it does what they say it will i will have to get some for my 10ga i will try it out and let u know how it turns out VM

I tried the Hevi's out of a Hastings .665 and wasn't too impressed. The shot pattern looked too "stringy" almost like a blown pattern. I was amazed at the difference between the Star dot and the Hastings with the difference beeing only .003" I too have a .650 choke, a little too tight for the hevi's but you should see the pattern it throws with those #7 1/2 and #8's used at competitive turkey shoots in the fall. I need to try some of those #2 Hevi's, after killing that one with the #4's I can only imagine what kind of performance it would have and especially since they're loaded into a 10ga round.

Sorry to bring this one back but I had a similar experience. We had a coyote rush in and knock over our decoy while turkey hunting a few years back. I wanted to blast it but the guy who took me said no. I should have killed that dog but I was a guest so I did what I was told. Not next time though.

We picked up the decoy and it had slobber and tooth marks on it. It was really cool to watch, wish I had it on tape.
