.510 Whisper-Parent cartridge???

What is the parent cartridge for the 510 whisper? Is it the .308?     TIA :wink:

I think it has to be on a bigger case.

I did have one of JD's .50 American Eagle, in a stainless 11" Encore barrel and one of his Super brakes. Was fun shooting the little barrel. It uses the .50AE case as a parent case, and the best was shooting 700 grain .50 BMG AP bullets at subsonic. Modified the barrel to also shoot some trimmed .500 Linebaugh brass. And with its long throat, was able to get some .500 Maximum Linebaugh ballistics,by seating the bullets way out.

Pretty sure it has to be a 460 wby or 416 rigby case shortened appropriately.  I think they are the only "normal" cases large enough to hold a 510 bullet.  Even blown out straight I dont think the 308 is large enough unless you use a heeled bullet like a 22 lr.

I checked my Cartridges of the World 9'th edition and it stops at the 500 Whisper which is a shortened 460 Wby case.

The 500 whisper uses the 460 belted case.  The 510 whisper uses the 338 lapua mag case cut down to 1.885".  When the 510W cases are made, the neck is turned down to about 0.013", the shoulder being formed at the same time.  I have an Encore barrel in 510 whisper, it is a real thumper on my shoulder.  Making my own cases from lapua brass is a real bitch, so I bought SSK cases.  Michiguns told me they will not sell to anyone except SSK.  See link for some cartrigde pics.  http://www.geocities.com/kaiya_bird/
