Winchester 94,,,kinda fancy..??
« on: September 11, 2004, 10:01:47 AM »
A friend of mind produced a Winnie 94 in 30-30 today. It's kinda  purty. Caseharden receiver, brass loading gate,  deep but simple engraving on the receiver, no safties at all, top eject. He says its from the early sixties. Round barrel standdard sites. walnut okay and about 98%. He wants 300 dollars from me......should I go for it? Any advice appreciated.

My 1965 Winnie 94 has the steel buttplate and standard walnut and the blueing is about 98%. Everything is still in stock condition. I bought it about 4 years ago for $250.
If you think the case hardened receiver, brass loading gate, and engraving are worth an extra $50, I'd say get it.

look at the tang on the reciever right behind the hammer
if it has no writing on it, it is an older gun probably in the sixties.
if it has winchester model 1894 stamped on it there it is a remake made in the eighties. either way it was called the antique saddle gun model.
being a used gun if it was in excellent condition it should be worth around what he is asking for it.  a guns worth is more of a relative thing to me.
i look at how much i want it as to how much it is worth.
just for what it is worth my uncle bought a new one just like you described from a local hardware store in 1953 for 75 bucks.
