As stated in the other post, I am getting a good deal on a H&R Sportster 17 HMR cal.with Heavy bull barrel. Will the Reciever of the Sportster (SS1) handle shotgun barrels from the SB1 or centerfire barrels from an SB2 ??

The sportster receiver will only handle other rimfire barrels due to the location of the firing pin. =rimfire, not centerfire

The platinum and sweet 17 get good reviews on RFC. I have an AR3-12x44 that has held up well on a heavy spring air rifle. Lawdog here on GBO highly recommends it, he has a dozen of em and loves em!

I can say I do not like the Cats Eye series. The glass is good but it has a rubberized finish which rubbed off in spots after the first season of carrying it from rubbing on my pack when the gun was carried in with a sling. I returned it and was given full refund by the dealer.

I also do not know how consistent they are with regard to point of impact changing when you change power levels. This is where these cheaper scopes have problems sometimes. You sight it in at high power, and then bump it down and the POI changes slightly.

You may want to check out Redfield. They have an "economy" line scope called the "tracker" that is very good. You can get a 4-16x44AO at http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=145625 for about $140.

Rogmatt, I had a 6-18XPA Contender scope that I had tried on a couple of rifles and just didn't like it. No specific complaints...just didn't like it.  Well, I was hot to get a 17HMR and the Sportster was the only one I could find.  Next thing I know, it had followed me home.  Of course I was horny to shoot it so I dig thru my junk hunting a scope and find the Contender.  It was all I had unmounted, so I bolt it on and go shoot.  That was three years ago and the two are still together and performing nicely.  Must be the big barrel...they just seem to be a match for each other.
GOOD SHOOTIN',  Walt  :)  :)  :)
