6.8 Remington
« on: September 13, 2004, 03:25:00 PM »
Has anyone noticed, Remington is introducing a new cartridge soon a 6.8mm . It is based upon a shortened 30 Remington necked down to .277".  It is intended as a military special purpose round to function in M-16 rifles. But .... it should make one heck of a contender round. Would it be better than the 7X30? Maybe, maybe not but it sure sounds interesting.         Elwood

JDJ alreay has barrels available in the 6.8 REM SPC.  Compares it very closely to their 6.5 JDJ based on the 225 win case.  The 6.8 is .270 cal 115 gr bullet at 2600 in a 24 inch tube.   I'm looking into getting an upper for a Rock River lower AR15 now (waiting for AWB to expire).  The great thing is that the .223 mags can be used without any modifications.
