What if you could take something you dont like about a Rem...and replace it with another guns attribute/s, what would it be and from what gun?

I would lose the scope bases on the 700 and replace with Ruger's patented integral scope mounting system from the M77...

Actually I would take the whole receiver from the M77 and put it up behind Remingtons barrel...no wait, I guess I will just stick to the Ruger M77 altogether, but if Remington would make an integral scope mounting system it would be great.

Hmm...I'd probably take Savage's AccuTrigger and put it in all of the Remington rifles. And maybe Benelli's Inertia system in the Remington 11-87 shotguns. One can dream, right? :roll:

Ah come on 7Mag, you could put the receiver in the 700...just leave the trigger and the saftey. And even then, I don't think Ruger has the "Three Rings of Steel" in their receiver like Remington does. But that's the Remington aficionado coming out in me :roll:

I prefer Timney Triggers over ALL triggers.
Now the Safety is one thing I would take from the 700 and put on the newer M77 but the MKII safety is ok once you get used to it...
I like the Simple yet Solid Mauser Action Receiver myself, and once the bolt is closed, its locked up as tight as a bank vault...just as tight as ANY other Bolt Rifle and actually tighter than most...

I love Remingtons especially 700s (and 870s) but I can not stand the thought of a "sleeved" barrel like Remington uses now to cut production cost and time...I will stick with the good old hammer forged one piece barrel over the two piece sleeved barrel any day of the week.

And on to the stock, perhaps the most overlooked and important thing on the gun...Remington's and Rugers both need a little dremel work from day one, but I prefer the "Plain Jane" straight stock of the Ruger, but that is totally personal choice...

I'd take the hinged floor-plate, removable magazine from the Browning A-Bolt series and put it in the Remingtons!
It just seems like it would be handy!

Gentlemen,
Let me take a few lines to voice my opinion on the subject of remington rifles, By the way i'm not an expert on anything, Thats a claim i cannot make, # 1 With the remington trigger as easy as it is to work on you don't need a timney trigger ( another added expence ) as far as the sight setup
yes some thing like the ruger mounting would be great. But as far as the stock goes i don't see any thing wrong with them, ( of course i do have a few Mc Millens ) It may be that the Remingtons just fit me. I have them from 17 rem to 416 rem mag and love each and every one. Thats it for me now i will set back and dodge the flying objects. yall have a great day and keep your powder dry........Joe........

I have six Remington 700s : 30'06, 222, 222mag, 6mm, 7mm Rem Mag, and a 300 Win. Mag. and I love them all, just like you love yours...
I also love the trigger in the Remington 700...
I do not have a problem in the world with the good ole Remington Bolt Action Rifle and actually would not change a thing(except for the scope mounting system)
but the Timney Triggers and the stocks on my Ruger M77s have just grown on me. :grin:
I didn't intend to make it sound like a bash towards Remington Firearms.
McMillan stocks are wonderful, aren't they. :agree: :grin:

7 Mag.
I have a mod.700 in 280 rem out of Remingtons custom shop and i put the Mcmillem stock on it and its the sweetest thing i have shot in my fifty five years of shooting. When i take it out i have to be careful not to over dose on it. The trigger lets off at 2 3/4 lbs every time.
To answer your question YES those stocks make a world of difference.

In answer to your McMillen stock question, Now Pay Attention i'm only going to do this one time. The first thing you must do is REACH down in your pocket and drag out all that MOTH ball infested cash you have stored away, that you have hidden from you know who. Next you carefully slip
three franklins out and lay them aside, Now you can put the rest of your stash back. Next you find you a good catalog and look up McMillen stocks.
I think you will find them in Midway If not almost all Gun rags will have something about McMillen stocks. ALL joking aside there is no comparing these stocks to the stocks that come on you Rifles. If you are having a problem with a hard kicking rifle put a McMillen stock on and see the difference. I think most people will agree with me on this one. My 280 rem that i love so much has almost no felt recoil since i put the McMillen stock on it. Good luck Fish..........Joe...........

I did and I like it more than the 3.5 Franklins I sent away for it.

All joking aside if you do have a rifle that gets a little out of control as far as the kicking goes, And you like the gun otherwise, I can almost bet you would like the McMillen stock. I was gonna go down to the old folks home and borrow some money to send to 7mag but then he said he would take the money and buy one of the no name rifles, Why do i call them no name,,, Cuz my momma said not to say that word in public or i would get into trouble. I hate to admit that i have a few of them no name guns myself, In fact i'm ashamed to say this but i have quite a few of em. Let me go count them before i make any more statments. OK i counted 24 if i didn't leave any out, Most of them are single action pistols. Its darned hard to count them in the safes.
Well any way i won't pick on 7Mag. any more but i do have more Remington Rifles than any other kind. You Guys Have a good one................Joe............

Yea I have a few of those too :roll: ....hmm...lemme see...NEF (oops..hope no one from NEF heard that :shock: ), Savage, Moosberg (ha ha...get it?), and I tink that be it. Traditions replacing the POS CVA within a few days...and the rest of the guns are Remington (only 2...I regret to say... :cry: ). But I must admit...the NEF almost had a place on the trap range, the Savage almost took a few squirrels, and the Moosberg took aim at crows. But...only the Remingtons did the job. The 870 knocked a few crows out of the sky and the 700 took my 8 point. Not to mention the 870 did a better number on the trap range than the NEF (first time w/ the NEF...only hit 2 CLAYS :oops:. Next round I pulled out the 870...hit a pretty darn good 18/25. But then again, I was brand new to the NEF...possible pilot error) Not blaming the guns for those missed kills...but it don't make em look good :eek:

Funny you should mention NEF, I took my $80 single shot out yesterday and blew a few dove out of the sky, but I did it using Remington shotgun shells, so hey, I guess Remington did it afterall.

You woulde'nt want any of my old junk, They have all been modified like free spinning pawl, 2 1/2 lb. trigger smoooooooth trigger and all that silly stuff, Besides that they are not Remington MFG. How about some colts or FA.s. Wouldent you much rather have some old Sam Colts? Take a couple weeks off and come out to the land of Enchantment and we will do some shooting. We can shoot every thing from 17 to 458. There has to be one you like........Joe..........

I guess I can either weed eat around the '74 Lincoln Mark IV Continental thats out in the field, throw some spark plugs into the old 460, fix her up a bit and once I hit I-40W I will let that old boat sail and be there for you know it

Or I could go ahead and fire up the old 490hp Trans Am that is sitting in the barn and pass everything 'cept a gas station....but that would be more expensive than paying Fishman to land his 747 in Nashville, but I do so hate to fly....
