45-70 loads???
« on: October 09, 2004, 07:16:27 PM »
:D  I bought some Sierra 300 grain bullets to shoot in a 16" 45-70 Contender.

It would be appreciated if you guys could steer me in the direction of a good powder to start with.

I have the current Sierra manual but thought my choices could be narrowed down a bit by coming here before I begin loading.

Any and all suggestions appreciated. :D
If I can make it go bang it can't be that hard to do.

My 15" Encore barrel in 45-70 will shoot one very large jagged hole at 100yds. using 58.5grs of Varget under a Rem. 300gr JHP and a CCI BR-2 primer.

I happen to like using H 322 with the 45-70 with bullet weights in 300 to 350 grains.
