New to silhouette and GBO

:? I'm new to both GBO and silhouette shooting. My first match was last weekend.  

I just stumbled accross these forums through RFC and have been reading as much as I have time for, trying to get up to speed on what's what in the silhouette game. I must admit the tone of a lot of the posts is a bit off-putting!

I knew I had a lot to learn and boy, did my first match prove that. 8/60 in the am and 13/60 in the afternoon, but the improvement was primarily due to the great coaching I received from some experienced shooters and I could not be more excited about the sport and the style of competition. All the folks I met were just plain great!

So why not let the folks who think they can buy a championship without putting in the work spend there money. They're really just a product of the time and it's fun to watch them fail and blame it on everything except themselves. The whiners will whine, the folks who can afford them will shoot Annies, the shooter will win and I hope most of us will have fun.

Welcome to Graybeard Outdoors.  Yes, it is amuzing to listen (for a short time) to people who whine about their equipment but never about themselves. Usually it is the quiet ones who tend to business that are the real competitors.  But if you are at the right place at the right time you can pick up some good equipment at excellent prices from the whiners.  Since they are always trying to buy sucess (as you have said).

People are buying championships? :eek:  People are whining? :eek:  Are you sure you weren't reading the shotgun or pistol forums? :-D  I can already feel the burn for the flaming I will get for that one.
Glad to have you aboard, sounds like you are headed in the right direction.


BTW,what RFC threads have you been reading?

C. Hunter, Sorry I missed the back half of you question. I'm either ADD or just old. On RFC I try to keep up with CZ, Anschutz, Cooper and .22WMR. HR

perhaps just a thought or two...  
i think some folks just want the best rifle they can possibly own.  they have no real thought of winning a championship but want a piece of equipment they can really be proud of.  i get that.  i like a nice rifle as well.  for others, tinkering with equipment is the primary activity, shooting a happy second.  
for me it is change.  i change rifles every two years or so whether i need to or not.  something to do, something to keep my head in the game.  probably the main reason i'm shooting a 6x scope.  i REALLY have to pay attention with it.  
for those top shooters around the country...  yup.  against normal mortals you can all but put a sling shot in their hands and they will win.  they work hard on their skills and that will translate to whatever equipment they are using.  most of them can outshoot lesser equipment or ammunition.  but... take those top 10 or so shooters and stick them on the same range shooting against eachother...  i'm betting not a one of them will want to be there with the rifle grandpa bought him when he was nine.

i'm certainly not disagreeing...  there is a lot of whining that goes on here.  folks focused in the wrong areas if their intent is to really get better.  but, at the same time, there are a lot of folks here that just get a kick out of the better mouse trap for its own sake.  without them the rest of us would probably still be shooting grandpa's rifle.

Dave, I did not mean to paint with too broad a brush. Everyone who has a great rig is certainly not a whiner by definition or trying to buy a win! I appreciate a beautiful, precision, rifle and scope as much as anyone and love to see all the variations on the line. Thanks, Mike Hare (Happy Rabbit)
