Getting started... in central Washington
« on: November 20, 2004, 08:34:29 PM »
Anybody here from the Central Washington area?  I've always been interested in metallic silhouette, but one thing or another has always gotten in the way.  Now that I have a job w/ a decent amount of time off for practice, a little more discretionary $$$ for equipment, etc. etc. I'd really like to give some form of rifle silhouette a try (rimfire would be better, as I think I have a couple rifles that would be legal just as they are; probably not in centerfire).

The 'problem' is that around here (Columbia river valley) shooting sports primarily consist of trap/skeet and Hunter Benchrest.  I'm one of the few HighPower shooters in the area, and already spend a good chunk of time/money traveling to HP matches out of town.

Didn't find squat about Silhouette on the Washington State Rifle & Pistol Association web page, and just some fluff on the NRA Competition/Silhouette page.  Can someone point me in the right direction to bone up on what I need (besides the $12 NRA rulebook), and hopefully put me in touch w/ a couple places to go and watch and/or shoot?

Thanks,

Monte

Washington seems to have a very strong silhouette base.  Here are a couple smallbore silhouette matches that I have found in that area.

WASHINGTON, Machias: Nov. 21, Dec. 19, A; E. Springgay, 9737 164 Ave., NE, Redmond, WA 98052-3131

WASHINGTON, Puyallup: Nov. 14, Dec. 12, A; S. Zink, 16409 Canyon Rd. E., Puyallup, WA 98373; (253) 537-6151; tsc@woldstar.com

You can look on this website to help find more info on matches and dates:

As far as finding resources for silhouette shooting here are a few, these websites come from guys that frequent this board.

Also, this forum has tons of stuff in it,  besides there are lots of good guys on here, that will be happy to answer your questions.

Ah.  Machias and Paul Bunyan.  I shoot HP there, didn't know that they had smallbore silhouette as well.  May have to give a holler to some people I know over thataway.

Thanks,

Monte

Monte...It's not Paul Bunyan...the Puyallup shoot is at the Tacoma Sportsman Club located off Canyon Rd.

Smallbore Rifle matches in Western WA are as follows:

1st Saturday....Tacoma Sportsman Club

2nd Sunday......Tacoma Sportsman Club

3rd Sunday.......Machias & Capitol City R&P during spring & summer

4th Sunday.......PeEll Sportsmens Club

And... High Power Rifle silhouette...1st Sunday...PeEll Sportsmens Club

Come over the hill and shoot with us...You'll have fun....Marv

Oh... and I suppose the 'Tacoma Sportsman Club' is different from TR&R aka 'Tacoma Rifle & Revolver'...?

Is there much of anything for Silhouette that you know of in the eastern part of the state, west of Spokane ;)  Tri-Cities aka Rattlesnake is probably a shade closer than Machias (plus no pass or traffic) to deal with; guess I'll have to see if I can find their web page again.

Thanks,

Monte
