I bought it
« on: September 13, 2004, 02:50:44 PM »
Ok I had to buy it.  I bought an older H&R model 158 in .30-30. Its in pretty good shape and Ill try it out tomorrow after work.  I'm thinking i'm going to want to put a scope on it.  It is already drilled and tapped for a scope mount, 3 holes,  my question is will a mount from a Handi rifle fit on this older gun? If not, anyone know where I might get the mount that goes on a model 158?
thanks;

Mounts should be the same, the NEFs have three holes also. If you want to make sure, let me know, I'll measure the spacing between holes.

I checked the Weaver web site and they have a #60A base which is for H&R model 158s.  Midsouth has them for $6.48 so I think I'll send for one.
Thanks;

The advantage to the NEF factory bases is, there are more cross slots than on the Weaver base . This allows much greater range of scope placement on the rifle. NEF has two different bases, both fit all D & T ed models. You may also want to purchase a hammer extention.

Hammer extension will not work on older H&R such as Model 158's
 You can not cock it with extension on, been there tried that. Marv.
