You already have one, they call it a Social Security card, but the new one will be much "better".

Mitch, most people, even the ones on this forum, are either to nieve
or complacent to realize the situation were in.

Maggot:

YOu are probably right, but all the more reason MitchMI to enlighten us.  I don't know anything about this matter, but I hope to remember to read the referenced letter later when I have time.  I do write to my senators and representatives -- about the AWB earlier this year for example -- and would do the same in this case if the circumstances warrent.

Generally I don't trust government and prefer that they mind their own business.  I assume all of those guys in government are just like me: they would not go through the trouble of being in government just to do good for other people most of whom they have never met.  They are in government to do good for themselves.  This applies to Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, you name it!  No adult sacrifices their families and their comforts to be in government but to obtain some personal benefit.  This may be a good government pension.  This may be good business contacts.  It is something other than the salary.  While those guys make more money than I do, ask yourself if former NFL player Steve Largent needs the $150,000/year salary (or whatever it is)?  Do the other folks?  I'm not disparaging these guys -- I am just saying they are human like you and I, and that the government that governs least governs best.

I always think it is funny when Democrats do things to shut down government -- like refusing to pass a spending bill or (as in case of Texas democrats last summer in 2003) abandon the state.  No new laws being passed and no additional money being spent is a great victory in my view and for many Republicans!!!

So you're knocked out in a car accident, the amublance takes you to the hospital, root through your wallet, and find... nothing?  Lets see, normally they would pull your driver's license, call your contact numbers (wife, kids, whatever), learned your drug allergies, and gotten you on your way.

So you're Timothy McVeigh, with tightened restrictions on Ammonium Nitrate you need to go to Mexico to load up.  On the way back you simply tell the guard your real name is George Washington.

So you're the United States in a major war.  You're under attack by invading armies and you need to draft people for a defense.  But you can't because you can't make a national registration.

Sometimes the anti-government talk goes a little too far.  The benefits to a national ID system (as it exists now) are far too many to lose.  You may believe that the government is going to use that ID to come get you, but I think you're more likely to get struck by lightning while getting eaten by a shark.  I shudder to think what would happen if drivers didn't have to get, and carry, a driver's license.

Why don't you just put on a collar and wear tags?  Are you a man or are you livestock?

National ID is just the next step to making all current "citizens" into slaves.

It's none of the ambulance attendant's business who I am.

It's nobody's business what I buy or where I buy it.

If there's a cause worth my time I'll volunteer.

The government has nothing to offer ANY honest man except CHAINS and DEBT.

National ID, and ANY required ID for that matter, are overt violations of privacy by the state.

Americans have a RIGHT to be anonymous if they so choose, regardless of what anyone in government, including the Supreme Court have to say about it.
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

While you're certainly welcome to blame me for "allow[ing] this country crumble" i'd love to know exactly why it's my fault?  i've got a solid education, work hard, play hard, and enjoy my freedom.  What have i done to ruin this place specifically?  Isn't that what American's are supposed to do?

As to the claim, "Americans have a RIGHT to be anonymous if they so choose, regardless of what anyone in government, including the Supreme Court have to say about it."  Where does that right come from exactly?  I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just curious as to your source.  I suspect it's not the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and I'm positive it's not the Supreme Court.  Since the rights we have as Americans have to be codified in some manner I'm sure you can provide me with a site for that.

Quote from: JOHN F. KENNEDY
The rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.

Quote from: Constitution of the United States of America
Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

As you can see from the second quote listed above, my ideas regarding the true source of human rights has been shared by some persons of note.

In brief, the government does not decide what my rights are.  I do.  This is the principle of Liberty and self-government.

The last "quote" is from a little tome called the Constitution of the United States of America, the specific section is referred to as the Bill of Rights.

Maybe you've heard of it?

I interpret the portion that I've placed in boldface to mean that I have a right to be left alone.

Its funny how when it comes to a National CCW we will jump on the train and say full steam ahead but when it comes to a ID card NOOO WAYYY.

That being said I really dont want to be asked to show my "Papers".  I would feel like Stalin and Communist Soviet Union has returned TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.

How much different would it be than a combination of your drivers liscence(NAME, AGE,RECORD,), social security #(SERIAL #), Credit, debit bank, blockbuster, and supermarket cards(HISTORY OF WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN AND WHAT YOU HAVE PURCHASED), cards for the various associations you belong to,(NRA, RTKBA, etc.), Bills from who you call or what you watch on TV(TIVO), The list goes on and on.

How much different would it be?

Sometimes it is better not to think about it because then you start to sound or feel parinoid!

Just try to fly below the radar if you can but if you are a handgun owner in most states you are already on "THE LIST".

Like I said I try not to think about it to much.

George
or maybe John Doe :-D

As you correctly point out, there is literally no difference between a battery of existing tools and the creation of a new, single, combination tool that replicates and reinforces the former.

The issue is recognizing the intended direction that the "powers-that-be" are attmpting to herd the people, and what fate will result.

Government should be resisted at every step and blocked at every turn.  The Leviathan warrants no cooperation and no support.

The intended end of government's evil work is the subugation and enslavement of The People.

Hasn't been all that long since since a tyrannical police state stopped innocents and following was heard...

"Halt!  And show me your papers!"

Don't think that is the kind of country our ancestors wanted us to live in...do you?
