Early Christmas gift
« on: September 16, 2004, 02:03:10 AM »
My wife is buying me an Encore ML early for Christmas.  I have never owned/fired/hunted with a ML of any kind, but have wanted one for years.  Do any of you have any tips, suggestions etc... especially regarding the TC Encore?  Thanks

Man oh man, you musta been a good boy! As far as the Encore ml goes, you can't go wrong!! .50 cal might be the easiest to find accessories for,  but .45 is pretty nice too! I personally wanted stainless and walnut but that's just my preference. I don't use powerbelt sabots cause I can't figure out the right load, but it seems I'm the only one so they might be worth a try. 300gr hornady xtp's with 110gr loose triple 7 are just the right pill for me though.  Burris signature zee's with a good piece of glass and your ready to go. I guess your gonna have to figure out on your own what your gun likes as far as cleaning btwn shots, there are as many methods as people shooting. Congrats on the new gun and enjoy your season. :D

welcome to the encore club!! keeping it clean is the hardest thing for a new shooter. you have to clean after every session at the range or hunting. you cannot leave it dirty. it will rust out even with t7. my sugesstion is to start with pyrodex. a little easier to find groups with, and if your encore gets the crud ring with t7, pyro eliminates that. my encore has the 25 acp conversion, and at the range last sunday, I keyholed the pr 175 gr .357, kept the 275 and 300 under an inch over 100 gr of select powder. ask any questions at all, we're all here to help.
you wanna take my guns? go ahead, it's your arm!

In my opinion you made the right and best choice for muzzleloaders. You will have to shoot several loads and bullets to find which give you the best accuracy. I use a 50 cal Encore with 295 gr. power belts over two triple7 pellets and get 1 inch groups at 100 yards. I am also using the 25ACP breech plug to get rid of the crud ring from the triple7. You won't have that problem with pyrodex if you chose to use it. I have 3 Encore Muzzleloaders, a 45 cal and two 50 cal's.  Good luck in your load development and let us know how you make out.  :D
