Friday!!
« on: October 12, 2004, 03:53:03 AM »
I've made my list and checked it twice but I was wondering what sort of prep everyone else is doing? This is just one more exercise to keep my mind full of fresh hunting thoughts.  Guess you can tell I have way too much time on my hands between now and friday. Thanks for sharing and good luck!!

Hi Toecutter   Nice to see you. I live in the frozen North and have been bow hunting since 9/27.  I am ready to start muzzleloading on saturday.  I got prepared to hunt by doing some scouting and checking my stands.  Being out there gets my blood pumping. I have not taken a deer yet this year with the bow. My time has been somewhat limited with all the activities my daughters are involved in.  Also with the gang I hunt with, I am the only one who hunts with a bow.  I am looking forward to getting out again tonight. I also prepare by spending a day a weekend at the range and shooting my bow every chance I get.  I also teach the hunter safety classes so that gets me going too.

I cannot hunt friday morning, due to family obligations.  I may go out in the afternoon if it is dry enough.  Saturday I am going to my buddy's camp up near Lowville, to hunt the sparsely populated "buck only" muzzleloading zone.
This week I moved my archery stand from my NZ spot to one of my SZ spots.  I love living near the zone border!  I am in a funnel with an apple tree that is full of apples still.  The landowner told me last night that he has seen a buck crossing his open field in the middle of the day a few times recently.
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

I am out the door with the smokepole. Cleared off nice here for right now. Meeting the gang at the state land access and go in and chase some deer around for a while.  Then a soccer game for 11 and back out fo rthe afternoon in my tree stand next to the alfalfa field which connects to the newly chopped corn field. Aint life grand

bubba, I gotta know, what are you doing on the computer at 6:25 AM and 6:27 AM  . I had to be at the plant at 4:30 AM   this morning (4:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturdays and 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM Monday thru Friday, go figure) but I don't have a choice. I can't imagine being on the computer that early! :!:

I got on to make sure the weather was at least promising to cooperate.  Then I check my mail to see if my buddies had sent me anything about not going today after their little party last night. Then I got on here and checked the site and left.

Well, I saw nothing but squirrels and rain on friday and saturday, but it was great!! My buddy who was sitting about 500 yds from me had 2 coyotes under him howling and sniffing his tree in the dark!! To me it was loud and really cool sounding, to him it was a little bit more exciting!! Not a great season by game standards, but really a cool time to be out. This really is the best time of the year. I hope you all find what you are looking for, I know I have. Good luck!

anyone havin gany luck. I have been off all week hunting the northern muzzleloading season. I have not seen a deer. I do see coyotes every time I am out.  Went out on state land today and made a few drives with buddies. Still nothing. Strikes me as peculiar.

Bubba, a buddy of mine just got back from Canton.  There were 7 hunters in his party.  They drove the woods this past weekend.  Did they get lucky?  Well, long story short, they got 5 bucks, and 1 doe.

I didn't see any deer up at camp last weekend.  One guy in camp was duck hunting and he had two bears come within 60 yards.  And all he had was bird shot!  I guess that had to be a little exciting!
The rain has been discouraging, but I am going out this afternoon, the weather looks like it will cooperate finally.
I am skipping the rifle opener, and I am going to focus on filling archery tags.  I'll hunt the big woods of the northern zone after the snow flies.
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

Don't feel left out bubba, I still haven't seen one deer that I could have shot. Actually the only ones I have seen were two does I couldn't have shot anyway. The weird thing is  that the places I was hunting were full of sign and traditionally you can't throw a rock and not hit at least one in the head(maybe two with a ricochet!!) What gives?? Anyway, i hope it gets better for you, It can only look up for me.
