Hogue over moulded bolt action stocks
« on: September 15, 2004, 07:40:51 AM »
Does anyone have experience or opinions on the quality of the Hogue overmoulded stocks for Rem 700 Long action bolt gun?  I'm thinking of restocking my 700 -300 win mag.

What's the best synthetic stock out there?

Thanks

I really don't care for the Houge stocks on rifles.  They are heavy and the rubber coating seems to tear at the skin in recoil.  The Bell&Carlson stocks are good as are the HSPrecision but I truly have no favorite.  I much prefer laminated wood to a synthetic.

I've installed one on a Ruger 77 06 and I found it had a great feel and super grip. But as Gunnut 69 states they are heavier than other syn. stocks. I did a Bell & Carlson for the same guy on a Mark X in .375 Wby.
so now his .375 weighs less than his 06. There are a lot of makers out there that can give you a lighter syn stock. but stay away from the "Tupperware" stuff the factorys and some aftermarket makers put out.
Bell&Carlson is a good stock for the money as are the much heigher priced mcmillan, & H S precision.
